emrgi is a nonprofit energy cooperative that acts as your energy advisor. We watch your utility bill every month, find savings + upgrade opportunities, and offer optional paid upgrades (community solar, rate lock, bill smoothing) that make your energy simpler and more predictable.
Nothing. There is no signup fee, no monthly membership fee, and no cancellation fee. Savings Search is free forever.
Two ways. (1) When we find you a savings switch and you accept it, we take 10% of the first year's savings. (2) When you opt into a paid upgrade — Community Solar (10% premium on your bill), Rate Lock, or Bill Smoothing — you pay for that upgrade. Both are opt-in.
No. There is no equipment and no upfront cost. Community Solar is delivered to the same grid you already draw from, sourced within your own NERC grid region — real electrons, not paper offsets.
No — you keep your utility account. We act on it with your permission (to read your bills and, if you opt into a paid tier, to pay them). Cancel any time and the account stays yours.
Every month we pull your utility bill, check for billing errors, rate-plan mismatches, and upgrade eligibility (efficiency rebates, weatherization credits, community solar). If we find a switch worth making, you get an email with the math. Free unless you say yes to a switch.
Community Solar — a 10% premium on your bill upgrades your usage to 100% local solar (on a $200 bill that's $20 to us). Rate Lock — your all-in rate is locked, with a guaranteed ≤2% annual increase. Bill Smoothing — pay the same fixed amount every month, reconciled once a year. All three are opt-in individually.
Nobody should pay more than 6% of their income on energy (the threshold that defines energy poverty in the US). It's the standard we hold ourselves to — the mission, not a legal promise.
Fees cover operations first. The remainder flows back to members as dividends, and 100% of the cooperative's profits go to the Emergi Foundation (501c3) to fund free upgrades and energy assistance.
Sign up at emrgi.coop/enroll. You give us your utility info; Savings Search starts as soon as we can pull your first bill. Paid upgrades come later — they're all opt-in.
Tell us via /move. We'll transfer service to your new address or cancel and run your final true-up. Utility hand-off included.
